Chapter 1- My family

My father's origins trace back to western Canada, where his passion for hockey began to flourish. His athletic prowess led him to play Division 1 hockey for the Northern Michigan Wildcats, culminating in the attainment of a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Northern Michigan. In 1991, he achieved the distinction of being selected as the 12th round NHL draft pick for the New Jersey Devils.

Subsequently, my father's hockey career unfolded across various teams, ultimately bringing him to Charleston, SC, where he joined the ranks of the South Carolina Stingrays. During his tenure with the Stingrays, he not only contributed significantly to the team but also played a pivotal role in securing the Kelly Cup in 1996, marking a notable achievement in his athletic journey.

However, my father's trajectory extended beyond the realm of professional sports. Undeterred by his previous accomplishments, he pursued higher education at the Medical University of South Carolina. There, he earned a Doctorate in Dentistry and specialized in Oral Maxillofacial surgery, showcasing a commendable commitment to academic and professional growth. Growing up, my parents faced economic constraints, that fostered resilience and resourcefulness. They worked extremely hard to achieve their wildest dreams. And while they both credit their parents; it was their work ethics that got them where they are today.

My mother, Tracey Hehr, hails from Stockholm, Michigan, and her early years were marked by a profound passion for animals that has left an indelible mark on my memory. A particularly vivid tale from her youth encapsulates her unwavering determination. Yearning for a horse despite initial resistance from my grandmother, she was presented with a challenge – find a suitable place for the horse, and it could be hers. Undeterred, my mother embarked on a journey, walking for miles until she discovered a kind older woman with a teal blue shed. With her persuasive charm, my mother secured the shed, obtained the horse at no cost, and began the rewarding journey of training her newfound companion.

In 2007, she embarked on her equestrian journey, quickly becoming an APHA World champion. Her commitment to excellence was further underscored by multiple year-end highpoint awards, consistently earning the most points in fiscal show seasons for several years running. Throughout her illustrious career, she has not only owned but showcased multiple world champions across various riding disciplines.

My parents both continue to work in their respected practices while also raising me and my twin sister, Isabella Hehr. She is currently at the University of Baylor studying corporate communication and business. At our roots, she also is on the Division 1 Equestrian team at the University of Baylor. She aspires to be an NRHA Professional horseman.
